The CIPLE costs €95. That is the fee on CAPLE's CIPLE page, and the University of the Algarve exam centre lists the same €95 for its 2026 sessions. If you have seen "€75–95" elsewhere, it is an older figure. The fee is simple; the rules around it are where people lose money.
How paying works
- Online only. You register and pay on CAPLE's platform, not at the centre.
- Card or Multibanco. By credit card, or by Multibanco if you are in Portugal. You can print the receipt when you register.
- Within 24 hours. If the fee is not paid within 24 hours of registering, the registration is cancelled and you have to start again, if there are still places.
- Before the deadline. Registration closes 21 days before the first exam of the session, and each centre decides how many places it opens.
- One exam per session. You can't book two sittings of the same session as a backup.
No refunds
CAPLE does not refund the fee if you cancel or don't show up. There is one safety net: if you miss every paper for reasons that are not your fault, you can ask, within five working days of the exam, to move your registration to the next session at the same centre. You hand in a written request with proof at the centre, and you can do it only once. The full exam-day rules are in our CIPLE exam day checklist.
Other CAPLE costs
Most people pay only the €95. These services cost extra (CAPLE's 2026 prices):
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| Re-marking (reavaliação): every component marked again by another team | €25 |
| Urgent certificate, after the results and before the normal delivery date | €30 |
| Replacement certificate (segunda via) | €25 |
| Certificate sent to you by post, or handed over at CAPLE by appointment | €25 |
The standard route is to collect your certificate at your exam centre, 15–20 working days after the results; the prices above are for the extra services. Re-marking must be requested within five working days of the results, the answer comes within 25 working days, and the €25 is not refunded even if your result changes.
What the CIPLE really costs
The real cost is not the €95. It is the €95 again, plus the months, if you fail. Sessions are spread out, results take about seven weeks, and a residency or citizenship file can wait on that certificate the whole time. So the cheapest exam is the one you pass the first time.
- Free preparation exists. CAPLE's official sample exam is free, the state's PLA course is free in the public network (more on PLA and other A2 proofs), and CIPLE Ready's free account includes lessons from every section and one full mock exam.
- Paid preparation should pay for itself. Tutors charge by the hour. CIPLE Ready's Full Access is a one-time payment, from €79.50 at the launch price, with a 7-day money-back guarantee; the current price is on the home page.
- Know where you stand before you pay €95. The free 5-minute mock CIPLE takes five minutes; a full timed practice test tells you whether you are ready.
CIPLE Ready is not affiliated with CAPLE or the University of Lisbon.
